There is less than one month left until the Jacksonville Walk to End Alzheimer’s where the Moving Forward For Mitzi Team will be lifting our voices, by way of our footsteps, to make sure that Mitzi’s voice was not silenced by this disease. The Walk starts at 9am with a ceremony in beautiful Hemming Park downtown and has a 1 mile and a 2 mile track to choose from. Don’t worry if you need to go slower…we’re not racing, but rather raising awareness!
The amount donated in Mitzi’s honor so far has surpassed any expectation I ever had for our first year doing this. I continue to be profoundly grateful for the generosity poured out in her name. In addition, I am so blown away and humbled by the number of people coming from ALL OVER the state and from other states to participate. I so wish someone in Heaven could send me a selfie taken with her so I could see her face on Walk Day when she sees the outpouring of love in her memory. I do so wish I could see that…
Through some incredibly generous private donations to offset some of the costs, we are able to have custom Moving Forward For Mitzi t-shirts printed for us to all wear at the Walk. Of course we will all have the purple Mitzi water bottles as well.

At the Walk, these giant flowers are carried by participants. Blue symbolizes someone who has Alzheimer’s or dementia. Yellow indicates someone who is caring for/supporting someone with the disease. Purple is carried by a person who has lost someone to Alzheimer’s or dementia. Orange is for those who support the cause and envision a world without Alzheimer’s.
The white flower is very special. It represents Hope for the First Survivor. That is what this Walk is about… Fighting for a cure so we will no longer only just have hope.
