Earlier this week, we had the great fortune of finding out that one of our theatres was going to run the movie South Pacific in celebration of the 60th year since its release. It was a rainy afternoon and, even though I know Mitzi’s not the biggest fan of movie watching, I asked her to humor me this time because I couldn’t think of anyone more perfect to see this movie with than Mitzi. She loves telling people who she was named after, and the absolute best part of the experience was when Mitzi Gaynor’s name came blazing across the widescreen. Mitzi leaned over to me and purposely said in a louder-than-a-movie-whisper-voice, “Hey, think I should give out autographs to everyone?!” She sure cracked herself up quite a bit over that one…
It would be so much easier sometimes to choose not to keep doing fun activities and getting out and about in the face of Alzheimer’s. And there will come a time when we just won’t be able to go out and do things like we have. For now, though, we’re just going to keep on staying busy and having a good time…????
