One of Mitzi’s “gap standers” for her father, who passed away 20 years ago, has been severely ill with a rare virus. It has weighed significantly on her heart. We were able to go to see him the other day and Mitzi was beyond thrilled that he called her “The Mitz” as he usually does, and actually winked at her when she walked in. She sat with him for a long time, not saying much, but just being present; grateful to be holding his hand.
On the way home that day, she said she feels so overwhelmed to have so many family members and friends in her life who make her feel loved and cared for. She said, “Moments like today are what life is about. It’s about being there for each other.”
Alzheimer’s may do tremendously unfair things to the brain, but the memories of the heart cannot be erased…????
