Bringing Awareness, Hope & Encouragement To The Fight Against Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia

Mitzi celebrated her 58th birthday last week. Her Aunt Barbara hosted a very thoughtful (and delicious!) lunch for her with Mitzi’s favorite foods: chicken and salad as well as a yummy ice cream cake!

It’s really hard to decide what to get someone with Alzheimer’s for their birthday, especially someone like Mitzi who is not all that into “stuff” anyway. More than anything, she most seems to value what she got the most of: quality time surrounded by friends and family. One of the best parts of the day was that her husband was able to unearth her actual Homecoming Queen tiara from 1977. She happily wore it all day without batting an eye.

This is the third birthday I’ve been blessed to get to spend with my friend Mitzi. I remember wondering as she blew out the candles in 2016 what the following year would bring, and I wondered the same thing last year. This year, though, I didn’t even go there mentally. Instead, I just enjoyed sitting back and watching her soak up the love because it truly is the best gift…????
