Bringing Awareness, Hope & Encouragement To The Fight Against Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia

Never Forgotten

Mitzi loves music. Her daughter has graciously allowed us to use her Bluetooth speaker and, during meals, I will often play the list of music Mitzi and I have carefully crafted using Pandora’s like and dislike buttons over the years.

Today, however, I played a new song called Rescue (https://youtu.be/2FhQCYGYXzw) that has words so powerful that I couldn’t help but sing them right to her. I’m not much of a singer, but she didn’t complain. She listened intently to every lyric and then looked away at the end; staring out the window for a long time, seemingly lost in thought. The song is basically about God being our rescuer. But the part of the song that goes, ”You are not hidden. There’s never been a moment you were forgotten” is the part that I could tell she heard because I saw her lower lip momentarily quiver and her eyes start to redden.

I often read her the beautiful comments that you all leave for her on this page. She always listens. I don’t know what her brain knows anymore. But I hope someday, outside of the gnarled reach of Alzheimer’s fingers, that she will know absolutely that she has never been forgotten…
