Bringing Awareness, Hope & Encouragement To The Fight Against Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia

may 17

You know those days that just can’t get any better? That was today…

Mitzi got to see (pun intended) her most favorite eye doctor in the whole wide world (who HIGHLY recommends that the people in your world who have Alzheimer’s visit their eye doctor very regularly because “often something will seem like an odd Alzheimer’s thing but might very well just be a vision problem.” (We plan to do a whole video on vision and Alzheimer’s because it’s such a fascinating topic).

Afterwards, we were headed to lunch to meet a dear friend of Mitzi’s…and at an intersection, Gloria Gaynor started belting out that she would survive, so naturally we joined in her proclamation. Loudly…And possibly did some car dancing (thank goodness for super tinted windows!). Right at that time, these folks walked up to the car collecting donations with signs that said, “Join the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease.” Seriously. What are the odds?! We had just posted yesterday about Mitzi fighting Alzheimer’s. I rolled down the window and the woman asked if we wanted to join the fight against Alzheimer’s. Mitzi leaned over as far as she could, threw her hands over her head in a partial Superman/partial fist bump and said, “I AM fighting Alzheimer’s!” We explained her situation and they all came over with votes of encouragement.

There are no coincidences in my book, of course…that we were at that intersection, on this day, at that time, with I Will Survive blaring…and those folks holding signs in front of us asking us to join the fight against Alzheimer’s. I just love it when God wants to make sure you don’t miss the memo! They handed us a packet of Forget-Me-Not seeds and we went about our day, which consisted of many more run-ins with longtime friends and family, a quick sunset beach walk, and literally concluded with the Hug-O-Meter count holding steady at a whopping 19. We often count the day’s hugs…because they are her best fuel. As I was leaving this evening, I made sure her family knew to fight over who got to be hug #20 because I was sure confetti was going to burst out of her ears or something. Can’t get any better!

Thank you to everyone who has been contacting us to connect with Mitzi the past few weeks. You cannot know what a difference the quality time has made in her world. Even us reading the comments on the posts here have been incredibly encouraging and have renewed her zest for life!
