Bringing Awareness, Hope & Encouragement To The Fight Against Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia

We had such a fantastic day! Took a field trip to go have lunch with some of Mitzi’s family about an hour and a half away…which she loved getting to do. Of course “staying in a routine” is supposed to be the easier way to keep things on an even keel with Alzheimer’s, but since Mitzi thrives on people, keeping her social calendar full is really far better for her heart and mind than routines.

The restaurant where we had lunch had this amazing gator out front and we had to make use of it!

But, looking at the picture later, I realized that there’s an unintentional symbolism. Like Mitzi is stuck in the clutches of the Alzigator and we’re trying to wrestle her free from it. It reminded me of the ad campaign the Alz Association is doing that I just love. Like the billboards that say, “The end of Alzheimer’s starts with me.” Mitzi has a friend at the gym who always tells her that someone has to be the first person to beat Alzheimer’s…So it ought to be her. No matter what ways you can fight against this battle, it should be fought. I love that Mitzi is willing to fight against it.

I’ve seen the ravages of this disease firsthand, many times over. I know what it can look like. But I’ve never known anyone who had it who also has the spirit and faith that Mitzi does. And that is such a tremendous inspiration to me every single day…
