Today Mitzi Ministry went in the opposite direction of the age spectrum! Instead of visiting at the memory care home, we went to see our favorite artist (who did the perfect logo for I’ll Remember For You). Nancy is painting these amazing murals at a day care for kids with all abilities, but it specifically caters to children who have special needs. This local organization is very near and dear to my heart because of the truly life-changing things that happen here. Since childcare for children with special needs is very difficult to find, the Developmental Learning Center allows parents to work or finish school while the kids are happy and healthy in a safe environment. Plus, the kids are learning, growing, and thriving in ways that always exceed expectations!
Most of the grant money and special funding that DLC receives goes straight to specialized staffing and equipment for the kids, so some of the essential aesthetics don’t make the budget. That’s why Nancy is donating her time and talent to filling the walls with these cheerful murals featuring kids and animals who also have special needs. We were able to help wipe down doors and trim since there isn’t room in the budget to repaint those areas. It was a perfect Mitzi job and she was so grateful to get to help and make a tiny difference.
Being in a place where small achievements are celebrated in big ways was such an uplifting experience and a great reminder for us both!
