This is, hands down, one of my favorite Mitzi pictures. She has her Alzheimer’s Awareness bracelet on along with her volunteer badge from doing a Hospital Ministry visit with me that day last year.
More than anything, though, I love the light that surrounds her as she reads a book about Norman Rockwell paintings that depict the simple acts of friendship.
It has been my honor to get to meet so many of her friends and to hear the stories they have so generously shared about the ways Mitzi has impacted their lives. Most of the time, they recount just what the book title says: the simple acts of friendship she would do to make the people in her life feel loved and appreciated. Mitzi has a small army of friends, old and new, who have been so supportive.
Without fail, whenever I ask her what the secret is to her amazing attitude about having Alzheimer’s, she always says, “I am so thankful to have people who care about me and such good friends…” ????
