Bringing Awareness, Hope & Encouragement To The Fight Against Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia

Mitzi was a little apprehensive about an appointment she had in the afternoon because she often worries she’s not going to answer questions correctly, etc. So in the morning, we were talking through it in the parking lot at the Memory Care place we often visit on Fridays doing what we call Mitzi Ministry. After a few moments of silence, she looked over at me and said, “You know what? That’s enough of this. Let’s just go make people happy…” and proceeded to get out of the car.

As usual, she picked one of the quietest people in the room, leaned down and said, “Hi! I’m Mitzi. I was named after Mitzi Gaynor. She was a singer and a dancer from a long time ago. What’s your name?” as she rubbed the woman’s sleeve and smiled. I love watching the residents’ reactions to her. By the end, this woman (who had started out mumbling her way over a few indistinct words), flawlessly invited Mitzi to come back and see her, smiling all the while.

It truly is one of Mitzi’s greatest gifts…????
