We changed things up a bit today as our usual routine hasn’t been working out as well as it used to. Mitzi seems to do better when we keep moving…the distraction of changing environments tends to keep her from getting as antsy, so I decided to use some zoo passes our friends gifted us a while back to give us an adventure for the day. There are lots of things to see and definitely plenty of walking opportunities. Since my husband and I homeschool our boys, it served a dual purpose to have them work on their animal reports with the subjects up close and personal. I also love the fact that spending time with Ms. Mitz (as they call her) gives them an awareness and compassion for others that many kids don’t get to add to their kid resumè.
We decided that her favorite exhibit had to be the manatee tank where we learned that these giant creatures happily eat about 100 pounds of lettuce a day. The whole tank had a layer of romaine floating on top…Mitzi was ready to dive in! At first Mitzi didn’t want to touch the sting rays, but when Andy announced he was scared, she said she would try it if he would. She’s always been great with my boys and I love the life lessons her presence in their lives is teaching them…????
