Looking out over the ocean today, at the perfect time when the sun would shine and highlight the color change of the shallower waters from the deep, I was reminded of how perspective changes things.
When you’re on the beach, it’s much more difficult to see those changes in water depth…the colors tend to run together into one seemingly seamless sea of blue. But when you can see things from higher up, you can see where the deeper waters start and end.
Life would be so much simpler if we knew where the shallow waters were (when our toes can still touch bottom)…and where the shallow gives way to the deep waters when all we can really do is let the current carry us.
Mitzi’s faith has always blown me away, especially throughout the uncertainty of the deep waters that she is being carried through these days. She has told me again and again that she knows God has a reason for picking her to have this disease (that’s exactly how she puts it). She also says, with a courage and conviction in her voice that I can only hope to have someday, “I know He has a purpose for every day I’m still here…”
