Bringing Awareness, Hope & Encouragement To The Fight Against Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia

There has been quite a bit of activity in the past week or so. Mitzi was thrilled to get to go to her 40th high school reunion last weekend with her best friend and said she felt like she “was in her element.” She had been the Homecoming Queen of her class, a cheerleader, and seemed to be quite well liked. For the reunion, she even had a “Homecoming Queen” sash that she wore. I asked her at one point if she was apprehensive about seeing her high school friends. She said, “And telling them I have Alzheimer’s? No. It just is what it is.” I always admire her courage so much.

She is having a tougher time with some things and knows she needs more and more help, which she is always so sweet about accepting. We just try hard to keep from rushing her these days. She is not a fan of feeling rushed, but since things take longer to do now that she needs the help, we’ve just got to account for that extra time when possible. Fortunately, other than any appointments, we purposely don’t have a very rigid schedule at all anymore so that we can go at her pace.

We were able to meet up with two of her longtime friends this week, which was great because she has been missing them. One friend asked candidly how she was doing with having Alzheimer’s and Mitzi rolled out the response I have only always heard her say, “I’m so grateful for friends and family who help me…”. ????
