Easter Sunday also happened to be Mitzi’s sister’s birthday, and it was such a blessing that Mitzi got to spend it with her.
Since I’ve been her sidekick, I’ve tried to help Mitzi pick out cards for some of the special occasions in life. She hasn’t been able to read much at all for the past few years because of the way her brain processes what she sees. She also hasn’t been able to write for at least 2 years. So we stand in the aisles amidst the buffet of Hallmark cards and I read them to her. All of them that seem appropriate for the occasion. The winner is always decided by which card incites the most tears. Then I would help her write on the inside. Sometimes she could sign her name. Now, not at all, so I’ve begun signing them for her: “Love, Mitzi’s Heart” because I know without words, just by the tears alone, that the card says what she feels in her heart.
Back in 2017, when Mitzi could share what was on her heart in her own words, I sat down with her on a walk and made a video for her sister’s birthday that year. It’s still one of my favorite captured Mitzi memories, especially because of the ending (shared in the link below). I love watching Mitzi and Angela together. What stands out to me about the relationship between these two sweet gals is the overwhelming amount of love and gratitude Mitzi has for her younger sister who has been such an invaluable, vital part of her life, most especially as she has walked beside her through this very difficult season…????
